Talk about gutted i ig went fishing over woodside in benfleet and all i was catching was bream, rudd, roach and gudgeon lol so i moved to a different swim. i was only fishing for about 15 mins when my float started to slide a bit like a carp bite, i was using my middy white knuckle with size 24 elastic. as i striked the tip of my whip didnt move so i thought the hook was stuck on the bottom, but as i pulled the tip up pretty hard something started to move and i knew it was big lol. i dont think it knew it was hooked first of all lol i had no idea what it was and my first thought was CARP!!, but as the elastic started to stretch it must have woke it up a bit because it kind of rolled in the water and it had a white belly and was big, now the bit why i`m gutted lol i was playing the cat for about 3-4 mins and it wouldn`t come anywhere near the bank lol i knew my mainline was 8lb but my hook length was only about 4lb to 6lb, so i couldn`t really yank it in lol, i tried to turn it slowly but my elastic was fully stretched and all of a sudden SNAP the hook length had snapped and no more catfish for me i`ve had carp to 25lb before and this catfish felt much heavier lol it probably wasn`t as heavy as a 25lb carp but by god it felt so much more heavier lol i now know why people move on from carp to catfish its because of the power they posses. i thought i would just share my day on the forum, i`m more gutted because i`ve never caught a catfish before and that would have made my season especially as my 7 yr old son caught a 8-9lb tench last week it might have shut him up if i had landed the cat lol.
